Budding off

3 min read
I've gotten bored of deviant art. I want to start a blog. Having an account on deviant art does come with some baggage and it sets you up into a mind set where you assume what the etiquette is (come on, how many of you have actually read the rules) and there's no doubt everyone sees it a little differently.
Deviant art is THE art community of the internet, there is doubtless any other website that can match it. It has the easiest and most efficient system of communication of any online art community. It's that very last word that bothers me ... community ... just the one ...
I will always feel that no matter what I put on here, it will have the influence of the other artists and the same goes with all the others. For all it's groups and sections we're all in the same mix here. We're all in the same boat and it's riding a bit low in the water.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, there is still worth here but I'm increasingly feeling like it's just pennies in dog shit. I recon if I leave it'd be like amputating a diseased foot to save the body but the other way around
I complain too much about things that genuinely bring me joy. I come here almost every time I log on and I genuinely have no idea why any more. I complain too much in these journals and you're probably passed the point of caring (if you could even bother reading this far (don't blame you)).

... whatever. I want a more personal place. I know not many people would visit it and that'd be fine with me. No pressure about what I put on it. I've had this sort of planned for weeks now but I'm being damn picky about the name. I want something that says something about me. something novel and witty. Something creative yet cryptic. Something better than "my blog"
I have a few names I like so far but aren't quite right.

I've moaned enough ... again

P.S I would tell you what I'm thinking right now but I'd rather not ;)
P.P.S so have this instead www.wimp.com/booklife/

Every artist needs reference. Not every artist uses it but they do need it. It isn't cheating and it is hard. It is the foundation of every good picture whether it's a straight up dead ringer or inspiration by the thinnest of connections.

In my gallery I have recently submitted an anthology front cover "between the covers" dupic.deviantart.com/art/Betwe…. This you would not believe was not from a reference picture. It was a rag tag mumbled patch work of references most of which I had to make myself. I can't draw folds from memory and most of the time I can't draw people. This picture took weeks because of the amount of guess work that had to go into it.
THAT MAN DOES NOT EXIST.
Old people are numerous (more so than ever) and old people nap frequently, this is known to be true and yet these were the only three pictures I could find that fit the bill scrapetv.com/News/Images/old%2… cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/2003… www.anthonyzierhut.com/blog/na…
The face was built by guess work and actually going out and staring at old people.
The folds I had to take pictures of with my web cam. I had no reference for the chair, that's why I think it looks weird.

Maybe I'm being picky or maybe other people aren't being picky enough.
Why could I not find anything suitable? NUDE YOUNG WOMEN! EVERYWHERE! Now beautiful nude women are lovely, don't get me wrong, and looking at them's a treat but what help is that when drawing this picture? WHY does the word napping get results of naked girls? WHY does the chair get results of naked girls?

I once took a life drawing class. The model was a middle aged, in the frankest terms, she didn't look perfect but be honest. DOES ANYONE. People are in essence flabby lumps of skin in a vaguely bipedal figure and we should welcome that rather than feeling sub human because of a new type of cream. In the end I find drawing real people a hundred times more interesting to draw than the same perfectly sculpted body time after time.

People who learn how to draw anatomy from manga don't know how to draw people because people don't look like that. It gets them into bad habits and eventually every character they draw either has the same face, the same body and the only way to tell them apart is what they're wearing. Also, don't use tutorials on Anatomy, that's just plain lazy and you'll end up in the same trap. I've only seen one tutorial that actually mentioned variation of muscle structure. If any one knows where it is I'll put it in here.

TL: DR The worlds obsessed with sex and art is suffering for it.

And before you even start, YES I tried other places other than Deviantart. Seriously wtf is wrong with place now? It's like a house built from bricks of Exhibitionist, fandoms and stuff ripped from else where (motivational posters don't belong on here) and everyone else is the mortar holding the damn place together. I am considering doing something ... not sure what yet tho.

P.S I'm at University now. yay.

It would appear that I have reached 5000 pageviews. After 4 years on here and me not adding stuff. I'm not too bothered about pageveiws tbh, in fact it annoys me a little that the DA shop there's a T shirt with "pageveiw whore" on it :iconfacepalmplz: you're not going to fix a problem if you're proud of it. Supply and demand i suppose.

I would just like to say hello to the 5002 people who have viewed my page. I'd like to say Thank you to the 4,174 people who actually bothered to look at my gallery(To the 826 people who didn't give my gallery a gander, I'm sorry you didn't give it a chance but will you please fuck off with your llamas. I don't want them. I do not appreciate being used to accumulate more. They're pointless and I pity you.) and further gratitude to the 232 comments, I appreciated them all (sorry to others that they didn't float your boat). I am eternally grateful to the 95 people who favourited my things but might not be reading this and to the 28 people who watch me and are much more likely to do so in the future.
You 28 are my favourite (even the dead and banned accounts)
To those who are still coming in I welcome you also, please take off your coat and have a drink.
I was going to celebrate with a picture but I didn't realize soon enough and ran out of time ... but next time.

Stuff going on in my life
I've been to the cinema within a couple of weeks of each other. I may be developing a habit (or money sinkhole)
Inception: It's not that mind bendingly difficult to follow the plot as some people say although it does raise questions afterwards but nothing that weakens the plot in any way.  Satisfying film even the bit at the end which seemed to annoy some of my friends. My only critique would be the dreams were a bit plain, while folding a city is original it's not something I've dreamed about ... Then again checking windows with a super sonic penguin isn't grounds for an action movie. People who want to see it should.

Toy Story 3: As good as the other 2 although it felt a little out of place due to the time gap. Great villain, he was like a mob boss that got increasingly dark as the film progressed, I loved him. I did come out feeling that Pixar never really give their villians their due but then i remembered what happened in the incredibles. I didn't cry, I shed a single tear, I'm just sensitive like that

The A team: In the words of one of my fellow movie goers "A silly film taken seriously". I didn't watch the original but apparently it's very faithful. I can't really talk about it without giving away parts of the movies but they were brilliantly creative plans. Did someone say sequel much at the end tho?

Watched "There will be Blood" on the TV
It's real gritty but sort of hinges on the main character too much. Not a problem with such an asshole as he is but it was described as the "Fire and Brimstone Preacher" being his nemesis but I didn't think so. Daniel Day Louis is brilliant, his voice, his persona, his moustache. The final scene was the one I was familiar with and sums up everything about Daniel Plaintive beautifully.

I also watched Monsters inc. which I had forgotten how much i enjoyed. Not sure how they're going to do a sequel. I thought it was pretty conclusive

next time I won't talk about films so much.

Well those are films, I'm going on holiday next week to some sort of music fair in Dorset.

Tl:dr STUFF HAPPENED

P.S I drink your milkshake *SLURP* I DRINK IT UP

Derby sent me a penguin stress ball. It seems a trend since I've already seen Ducks and Toucans from them. If you're wondering why I called him Kane, it's after Citizen Kane.

On another note, I'm starting up a 100 words challenge (again) after :iconpsyniac: announced his. I did do it before but I couldn't really find an in as it was gravititating around pictures only. I'm not going to do that this time. It'll be whatever I think fits the word. I'm also not going to post the list here unless I've already done them because some lists are ... well they're just crap. I'm going to pick and chose from a number of lists but there I am sure of 2 things. the first is if I do it, it must be a number and a word I haven't done before and the second I'm not doing KAWAII DESU!!!

On another note, Deviant art version 7. 'Salright. I'm not going to rage about it but the zooming is a bit irratating. It hasn't got any flaws I can't adapt around. It hasn't got any problems that are any more annoying that of the previous version. It certainly hasn't broken new ground or fixed any problems. I mean sure the task bar is now compact and spiffy but to what end Deviant art. TO WHAT END?

On another note, coalition government eh? I'm not in dread of it in particular but I am rather annoyed when some pointed out that I share the same initials as David Cameron. My middle name is now back in service for that matter. I've got nothing against the man and I'm sure him and his bitch will make a lovely government no more or less incompetant to cause ripple on the political scales ... he is a bit of a knob though ... a shiney foreheaded knob.
That appears to be optimism I just showed there, an "it'll be fine" attitude, I must be ill or something.

On another note I've been doing things for my writers group but I still feel I should be doing better. Such as finishing things I promised.

On another note I've been having some Bandwidth problems. I ... used a lot ... bills were pointed at and voices were raised. As a result I'm sort of dettached from the online world for most of the day and considering that I have nothing to do ... it means I have nothing to do.

On another note I've been reading Prachett a lot. I like him. It's not his imagination that inspires me, it's the way he rationalises the absurd. If the book I just finished "the fifth elephant" there was a fifth elephant that crashed into the disk breaking apart the continents and the resulting debree buried the body, it decomposed and the ores from it's bones were buried underground for dwarves to mine. This also means that there is fat being mined. Perfect sense.

On another note I've been playing a lot of L4D2 (single player obviously) and it's gotten me in the mood to build a campaign for it. I did originally want to build one for TF2 but I over thought the issue of balance for the classes and gave up. This appears to be more of moulding a path over reality and placing spawn points. Sound easier in my head anyhow. Got a fire motif going.

On another note I went to see Gogol Bordello in Norwich with my sister. My First gig in fact and certainly not the last. It was amazing. It also made me like Cider so my drinking days have started as well. It did make me realise my lack of consistancy in my musical tastes and made me root out some bands I can confidently say I like. Do late night Radio DJs have a condition or something. They're all incredibly rude to the callers. Then again you have to call into question the callers mental state when they're phoning in at 2 in the morning. and mine for that matter for listening that late.

And if you take all those notes together you get a little song. Good night.

P.S Because they're both black and white
